Seattle Times to build metered paywall

by Curtis Lee Fulton

EXCLUSIVE: The Seattle Times will start charging readers to read its online edition starting mid-March, says  David Boardman, Executive Editor at the paper. Access will be metered (like the New York Times) so non-subscribers will be able to read a certain amount of stories each month for free. Boardman did not say how many free articles non-subscribers will have access to, nor what technology the paper plans to use to implement the metered system.

Boardman said complete online access will be 99 cents a day. They’ll also throw in a Sunday print edition. Print subscribers will have complete access to the online edition.
