Amazon reshuffles affiliate program for free eBooks

by Curtis Lee Fulton

Amazon says it will no longer pay Internet sales associates for directing traffic to any of the company’s free eBook offerings. Referrals that result in actual commerce will work as before.

Under Amazon’s new rules, sales associates will forfeit all accumulated fees for a month if 80% of their referrals are for free eBooks and if referred downloads for free eBooks exceed 20,000.

Amazon says its associates program is “designed to compensate advertising partners for referring paid business to Amazon.” The move appears to be a way to avoid paying fees to  free eBook link farms such as MemoWare.
