Goodbye to Google Reader

Google said today that its shutting down its RSS reader, Google Reader in three months because too many people have stopped using it. The company is offering customers a data lifeboat called Google Takeout, which gives Reader users a way to export their subscriptions as XML and social data as JSON. The social data includes:

  • List of people the user follows
  • List of people that follow the user
  • Items the user has starred
  • Items the user has liked
  • Items the user has shared
  • Items shared by people the user follows
  • Notes the user has created
  • Items with comments
