Social media monitoring firm Ondore get $1.5m from Alta Ventures

Latin American social media monitoring firm Ondore says it’s picked up a $1.5 million investment from Alta Ventures. Ondore says its monitoring tool, called Ondore Scout, is used by media conglomerate Televisa and the famous ad agency Ogilvy to keep tabs on social media conversations in Spanish, Portuguese and English and provide “insights and actionable reports.”


Male fashion magazine buys sneaker culture site

Complex Media, publishers of male fashion magazine, says it’s bought sneaker culture site Complex CEO Rich Antoniello said that had 66 million unique visitors last month and 735 million pageviews. He also said that thirty percent of the site’s traffic was generated by social media.

San Jose opens free ‘wickedly-fast’ wifi network

San Jose opened its new “wickedly-fast” wifi network to its citizens today, after mayor Chuck Reed sliced a ethernet cable in half with a chainsaw during a ceremony. The city partnered with SmartWAVE Technologies and Ruckus Wireless, Inc. to deliver the network.  Ruckus CEO Selina Lo said smartphone users on the network will see speeds of up to three megabits/second, “easily three to four times faster than any other public network service.”
