Online book sales beat brick and mortar for first time

Online book sales beat brick and mortar numbers for the first time, according to Bowker Market Research, a publishing data provider. Bowker says that last year, 43.8% of book sales were online, while 31.6% of sales was in “large retail chains, independent bookstores, other mass merchandisers and supermarkets.” In 2011, 35.1% of book sales were online and 41.7% were in stores.
