Variety, the venerable Hollywood show business newspaper, printed its last edition today. The publication tore down its paywall March 1st and launched a redesigned site the same day. Jay Penske, chief of Variety’s new owner, Penske Media Corporation, said the paywall was an “interesting experiment that didn’t work.” Jay Penske is the son of auto parts billionaire Roger Penske.
