Florida International University students prototype glasses that read to the blind

by Curtis Lee Fulton

Florida International University students Maria Pia Celestino, Viurniel Sanchez, Jesus Amundarain and Esam Mashni have prototyped a pair of glasses that read text to the blind.  The technology, called Eyetalk, works by embedding a camera in a pair of glasses, then scanning any text that may appear in front of the camera and reading it to the user. Eyetalk is still under development, but the team plans to make a product that is portable, affordable and doesn’t require an Internet connection.
