Google fiber will kill cable and telcos in five years
by Curtis Lee Fulton
Google fiber will be in every home in five years and it will kill cable and telcos, predicts Jason Calacanis, creator of Internet startup confab Launch Festival and de facto PT Barnum of the Internet. Calacanis says it all starts with free wifi:
Every Google Fiber home will have a public wifi component. In order to get Google Fiber, you’re going to have to agree to put a router in that lets anyone use a portion of your bandwidth.
Calacanis goes on to catalog Google’s chess moves towards his prediction. If he’s right, content deals are critical. Amazon has Downton Abbey and Netflix has House of Cards. But let’s not forget that Comcast has NBC, Universal and Xfinity for online streaming. Now let’s see who buys Hulu.
