Akamai says mobile speeds range from good to terrible

by Curtis Lee Fulton

Content delivery network giant Akamai has observed that mobile download speeds on its network range from a healthy 8 Mbps to a worthless 345 kbps for the last quarter of 2012.

The company also saw that downloads over cellular networks for Android versus Apple were pretty much tied for the same period, but once you bring in general broadband, Apple accounted for an average of 58.7% of requests, with Android trailing at 21.7%.
