Global tablet sales more than double as Android leaps ahead of iOS

Global tablet sales have have shot up 142.4% year over year in the first quarter of 2013, according to a new report by research firm International Data Corporation. The firm also found that Android market share has surpassed iOS, leaping from from 39.4% in in the first quarter of 2012 to 56.5% for the first quarter of this year, as iOS slid from 58.1% to 39.6% during the same period.

Apple continues to move the most tablets however, shipping 19.5 million units for the first quarter of 2013, with Samsung shipping 8.8 million units for the same period. Microsoft shipped .9 million units.
