Fifty-six percent of American adults now now own smartphones, according to a new study by  Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project. The study also shows 28% of cell owners use Androids, up from 15% in May 2011. iPhone owners are 25% of cell owners, up from 10% in May 2011.

The study also found that demographics influence platform choice. Forty-nine percent of cell owners with a household income of $150,000 or more report owning an iPhone. More African-American cell owners report using an Android over an iPhone than whites or Latinos.
