Android captured 70.4% marketshare for smartphone operating systems in Europe, according to a report by market researcher Kantar Worldpanel ComTech. Nearly half of all smartphones sold in Europe were made by Samsung. Android held 61.3% market share a year ago.

In the U.S., Kantar says Android holds 52% marketshare, iOS has 41.9% and Windows has 4.6%.  But Android marketshare grew only 0.1% this year, while iOS grew 3.5%.

Kantar also found that smartphone penetration in Great Britain jumped to 65% in May. In the past three months, 85% of devices sold there were smartphones.
