Content delivery network giant Akamai says that the number of new Internet addresses grew 10% since this time last year, reaching 733 million. However, since many devices can connect to a single address, Akamai figures that the number of unique devices on the Internet today is over one billion.

But despite the Internet’s population explosion, it’s getting faster. Akamai says the average Internet speed is up 17% compared to this time last year. Iraq saw the biggest gains, with an average speed boost of 122%. Oman mustered a 1.4% bump.
