AAP officially backs open eBook standard

by Curtis Lee Fulton

The Association of American Publishers says it wants the EPUB 3 eBook format to become the “standard global distribution format for eBooks.” The new format is a mix of HTML5, CSS, SVG and images that are bundled for distribution as a single data file.

In March the AAP threw a hissy fit and demanded that the word “book” must refer to an object in “written or printed form consisting of pages glued or sewn together along one side and bound in covers.” The PageMeld Blog figures the new EPUB 3 standard is a better cause to fight for.
