Wikimedia moves to SSL in response to SNA snooping

by Curtis Lee Fulton

The Wikimedia Foundation, backers of Wikipedia, says it’s moving to SSL by default in response to being “specifically targeted by [NSA’s] XKeyscore” spy program. The move was already on the backburner, but Wikimedia has made its SSL deploy a priority after Edward Snowden dropped the dime on the feds.

Wikimedia also encourages readers to use  HTTPS Everywhere or Tor when surfing the web, at least until modern web browsers use SSL by default.
