Al Jazeera launches predictive analytics for news

Qatar-based news outlet Al Jazeera English says it’s launched a predictive analytics platform for news on the web, in partnership with Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI). The platform, called FAST (Forecast and Analytics of Social Media and Traffic), measures audience interest in topics by scanning news stories on the web and social media.
Imad Musa, the online head for Al Jazeera English, says the broadcaster will use the tool to “understand the consumption of news and what is expected to do well in driving traffic.”
