In wake of server crash, turns to Facebook

by Curtis Lee Fulton

Any New York Times reader who ever wondered what the paper would use for a backup if its webserver crashed got their answer today: Facebook. For a few hours today, readers were directed to a page on the social networking site that explained the server outage and linked to other Facebook pages that contained whole Times stories.

As you may be aware, The Times is experiencing a server issue that has resulted in our Web site being temporarily unavailable. We expect the site to be restored soon…. In the meantime, we are publishing key news articles in their entirety here on Facebook. – New York Times Facebook page
